needles, brittle bones,
paralyzed beneath the pines
petitioning wind

clustered pea-green globes
traveling incognito
the first hyacinth

stalwart in spring rain
crossing guards dressed in yellow
April daffodils

capped with icy snow
their petals, shut tight and locked
tulips purse red lips

at dusk, one runner
glides through pockets of sweet air
a blur of blossoms

a lilac riot
white, lavender, and purple
commandeer dull streets

A Message from the Editors

Our past successes are owed to our greatest ambassadors: our readers. Our future rests on your support, as The New Criterion Editor Roger Kimball explains. Will you help us continue to bring our incisive review of the arts and culture to the next generation of readers?
